The Music department is situated at the 4th floor in the new annex. It is a centre providing an attractive and well-equipped environment for music education. It houses a spacious music room, an orchestral rehearsal room, four small practice rooms and a store room. There are all together 5 grand pianos and 4 upright pianos at the school. In addition, there is a computer-assisted creative laboratory equipped with 20 Apple Computers, each linking with a keyboard to facilitate budding composers. The Department aspires to high standards in both performance and services. And its programme extends into almost every area of musicianship.
“Music for All Wahyanites” is a fundamental principle of the Department’s work. In addition to the many music scholars, there are some 250 pupils who learn a musical instrument. Over 40 instrumental music classes are taught every week. Twenty full-time and visiting instrumental staff forms an experienced and dedicated team, and ensemble coaching enables them to share their enthusiasm and expertise with pupils.
Participation in instrumental and choral ensembles, large and small, inspires loyalty, confidence and appreciation of excellence. The School’s String Orchestra, the Concert Wind Band, the Chinese Orchestra, the Catholic Choir, the Junior Choir and the Intermediate Choir perform regularly in competitions and concerts both inside and outside the School for services and charity. Moreover, numerous lunchtime concerts are arranged to provide ample opportunities for our budding music talents to perform and share their enjoyment of music.
Applications for the Music Scholars Scheme 2019-2020 is now open until Monday 17th December 2018.
