Christmas Camp

Date: 27-28/12/2007
Time: 0900- 1700
Venue: Wong Shek
Presence: 10 ventures and 2 leaders

We organized this camp for our members, aiming to have fun and relax after the mid-term examination. We played ball games and card games until sunset then we began to cook our own dinner. We had a discussion with the leaders on time management and other issues. We also grasped the chance to carry out evaluation and reflected upon ourselves. In addition, we had a brainstorming on the concept of games for the up-coming campfire. All members contributed their own ideas and opinions. We had come up with some new ideas like detective games. We dismissed in Wah Yan after cleaning up at around 1700.

41st Annual Campfire - Anime-tale

PIC: Martin Cheung
Date: 16/2/2008
Time: 1330-2145
Venue: Wah Yan College, Hong Kong
Presence: over 30 ventures, 10 scouts, 3 leaders and over 100 participants from guest units

We have chosen “anime-tale” as our theme, which was a combination of animation and fairytale. The campfire was divided into game part and fire part. In the game part, we organized 5 base games and a detective game. In the fire part, a number of sound tracks and songs were played. We had performances like dancing of “Yum Yee Mum” and playing of Chinese kung fu. With the campfire burning fiercely, the atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement. All audiences indulged in the fire part and we all enjoyed ourselves!

We have spent a lot of money and man-power in preparing the booklets and souvenirs for all participants. The souvenirs were awesome that many participants admired our effort. The booklets successfully wrapped up this remarkable event. Although there were some minor drawbacks, such as the difficulties in co-operation with AV team, everything went smoothly according to the rundown. We suffered from a deficit and it was subsidized by the general reserve of the VSU and the group.

Although some of them failed in finishing their tasks, they still had a lot of fun.

Since some of our workers were late, we didn’t have enough time for preparation. However, the programs still ran smoothly after some modifications. We hope to boost our sociability by learning social dance and table manner. The social skill training course was successfully held around April and May with 5th Is Coy. We are honored to have韓雪梅老師 from 沈伯龍舞蹈學校 to be our social dancing teacher. Participants learnt more than 4 kinds of dance throughout the course, namely tango, cha cha, rumba and foxtrot. On the other hand, Ron, one of our AVSLs, taught us the basic table manner within one lesson. In conclusion, the course helped us to attain our goal; it would be better if we could have more 15th ventures participating.

This year, 2008, is an exciting year, our country historically hosts for the Olympic games and we are proud and privileged to be a co-host city for the Beijing Olympics. This year’s joint unit summer service project aims to provide a precious chance for our members not only to serve the community, but also to share the joy and have a better understanding of the Olympics.

In the preparation period, we made display boards introducing the Beijing Olympics and designed some games. We played games and introduced the Olympics to the children in the service day. Throughout the service, our workers have enhanced their knowledge in the Olympics, as well as their craftsmanship. Last but not least, we are all experienced in hosting a carnival, which is useful sooner or later in hosting similar events. In conclusion, the course did reach its aim, and we would like to invite more ventures to join in the future.

The o-day was successful as members were brought together after the ice-breaking games including a card game and water games. In Day 1, we completed a number of tasks which were set up along the route, for example, “roller coaster” and “free fall”. Day two was the day on which the competition took place. We went to different checkpoints and places to search for information. After the tracing, we had beach games which were really physical demanding. The participants were energetic throughout the project. In fact, all the games and tasks were based on team building and team spirit.

It is a sure thing that all the participants had an unforgettable summer. They also gained a lot of happy and funny memories.
