Music Scholars (2024-25)

Purpose and Scope:

Wah Yan College, Hong Kong strives to provide quality education to nurture students who can excel in both academic studies and non-academic activities. In fact, great emphasis is put on academic learning as well as non-academic developmental experiences for each student as part of the vision to offer a holistic, liberating and transforming Catholic education. It is believed that active involvement in musical activities can effectively develop not only skilled musicians, but nurture well-valued attributes like perseverance, sense of responsibility, resilience, self-confidence, loyalty, ensembleship, leadership, etc. The title of “Music Scholar” is a highly sought after honor in Wah Yan. The scheme is launched to recognize Form One entrants who are exceptional in their holistic development, i.e. not solely musical excellence, but equally an academic intellect, and an exemplary role model that contributes to their community as leaders in their field.

 

Eligibility

The “Music Scholar” title shall be conferred on Form one entrants who demonstrate:

  1. outstanding musical passion, competency, and aspiration;

  2. very good to excellent academic results;

  3. exemplary conduct, ensembleship, and potentials in leadership.

Designation

Awardees will be designated “Music Scholars”

Selection by

Audition, interview and primary school records of academic achievements and conduct

Numbers of scholarships offer

4-8

Duration of the Award

Renewable annually for the duration of 6 years

Renewal Conditions

Active participant in music ensembles with outstanding academic performance

How to apply

The application forms for Music Scholars are available for download on our website. To apply for the Music Scholars program, please visit https://www.wahyan.edu.hk/musicandscholar/ Once you have downloaded the respective form, kindly submit it along with the required supporting documents to the General Office. Please note that candidates who have not received notification of the results by the end of January should consider their application for the Music Scholars program unsuccessful.

N.B.:
1) Applicants should submit a separate application form for a Form One Discretionary Place (DP) at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong via your primary school. 

2) Being conditionally conferred the title of “Music Scholars” does not imply that the candidate has been given a Form One school place at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong. 

3) Likewise, failing to be named a “Music Scholar” does not imply that the applicant has been denied a Form One school place.
